Stewart Coffee Corner
The city of Lexington has gone through many changes since 1878. The “town”, which it was then called, had four dry good stores, two grocery stores, three saloons, one saddle harness shop, two blacksmiths, one buggy and wagon shop, one shoe and boot shop, one undertaker, one wagon maker, one hotel, two livery stables, one school with three teachers and seventy-five pupils, one Methodist church, one Masonic Hall, one court house, and a brickjail.
Stewart Drug Store was one of two drug stores in town. The population of Lexington at this time was around three hundred and fifty people. Stewart Drug was started by a Mrs. Threadgill, who at some point turned the business over to her brother, John Stewart.
We serve a variety of beverages and food.
Mr. Stewart ran Stewart’s Drug with his son, JT Stewart, until his death in the 1950’s. During John Stewart’s years of running Stewart’s Drug we know that his was, at one time, the only air conditioned building in town.
The local teenagers and young adults often used the soda shop, connected to the drug store, as their hangout. The soda shop is still running today, except with a new name, Stewart’s Coffee Corner. The Coffee Corner interior is original with the exception of a couple of mirrors missing, and the countertop having to replaced around 1940. When JT Stewart retired in 1973 he sold Stewart’s Drug to John F. Simonton.
The Simonton family still runs Stewart’s Drug today. John F. Simonton’s son, Jamie Simonton, began roasting and selling coffee in October of 2003. He decided with coffee becoming more popular than ever, to transform the soda shop into a coffee shop, and Stewart’s Coffee Corner was born.
Stewart’s Coffee Corner still functions as a soda shop, serving sandwiches, shakes, malts, but now also serves coffees from around the world. The coffee beans are roasted every two weeks to ensure freshness. The beans are roasted and bagged by Stewart’s Coffee Corner to cut out the middleman to ensure low prices for the consumer. Currently Stewart’s Coffee Corner offers catering a coffee bar to special events such as weddings, parties, ect. And provide personalized gift baskets.

Stewart’s Coffee Corner is now displaying coffee in other stores as well as distributing to four neighboring states. Stewart's Coffee Corner is not just about making coffee, it's about making Family and Friends. Some of our closet friends are ones we call family now. We have a unique way about doing business. If you remember not to long ago when neighbors came to help you out when you need it, that's how our family and friends are.
We stick together. If we have to stay up until 4:00 in the morning to roast coffee for our extended family and friends then we all get together and do it. We have a great time together. We do all the cooking in our homes and preparing sandwiches, cookies, soup for the next day or so.
Whatever we need to get done we all come together to do it. No matter how tired we are because we care about our family and if they are getting the best!
